The Words & Tools philosophy
Word & Tools believes that
-
efficient, user-friendly, quality pedagogical tools do not necessarily
have to be complicated and expensive.
-
modern, communicative language learning does not exclude the need for tests,
drills and exercises.
-
modern software for language learning should make it possible for the student
to constantly access new tests - and should therefore be based on randomized
but structured access to a database.
The LEMMA tests and exercises are based on the belief that
-
vocabulary is not only learnt in context, but also by association.
-
there is a strong correlation between vocabulary knowledge and level of
linguistic skill in any language.
-
to increase his/her vocabulary, a student needs first to increase his/her
passive vocabulary and then find ways of using the new words so they become
part of his/her active vocabulary.
-
vocabulary should be learnt in a cultural context.
